Bazooka
Rocket Bazooka built for $40.00 (a Weaponinjas Original)
The
rocket bazooka is a device that fires Estes model rockets. Use extreme caution
when building and using this device. I am not responsible for misuse, abuse or
any action that might endanger any living thing or property. Build at your own
discretion. Always use caution
when shooting this bazooka and always use protective
eyewear.

Tools and supplies
needed:
-2.5” PVC pipe 54” long
- (1) 9 Volt Batteries
-Medium Gauge wiring
-Electrical Tape (red and
black)
- 2 by 4 wood about 15”
- Alligator Clips
- Toggle Switch
-Optional: Spray paint
- Hacksaw or PVC cutter
- Screw Driver
- Assorted drill bits and
drill
- Scissors or knife
- Rocket
- Masking Tape
- Strong glue like Liquid Nails or Hot
Glue
- Hose (to clean out
pipe)
- Sandpaper
- Permanent marker
Assembly:
1)
Begin by cutting the
2.5” PVC pipe to 54” long with a hacksaw or PVC
cutter.
2)
Taper off both ends of
the PVC pipe with scissors or a knife (this makes getting the rocket in and out
a little easier).
3)
Clean out the pipe with
water and make sure that there are no burs. Dry tube
well.
4)
Sand the entire pipe
until smooth for painting.
5)
Print and cut out the
stock and front handle template.
6)
Trace the templates on
your 2 by 4 piece of wood.
7)
Cut the stock and front
handle out.
8)
Drill a hole on the
bottom of your stock big enough to fit a 9 volt
battery.
9)
Now is the time to
paint your stock and front handle. Let
dry.
10)
Place the stock where
you’re going to put it on your tube.
11)
Use the marker to trace
exactly where you want your stock to
go.
12)
Use hot glue or any
strong glue and glue your stock to your tube. Let
dry.
13)
Repeat steps 10-12 for
the front handle.
14)
Glue the toggle switch
in front of the handle. You might want to hold your bazooka up and have someone
move the toggle switch until the switch is right for you. This is so you don’t
get it too far away that you can’t reach
it.
Wiring
Diagram-Series
15)
Set up your wires like
the diagram above on your tube. At the end of the tube there will be two
alligator clips that will hook up the igniter on the rocket. Leave about three
inches of extra wire so you can hook the alligator clips up the igniter. Also
leave about three inches on the battery wire so you can hook up the alligator
clips to the 9 volt battery. Once you have them on mark the extra wire then take
them off to cut and strip the wire. On each end of the wires put an alligator
clip and screw that into place.
16)
You can now place your
wires back onto the tube and tape them down with electrical tape. Put the 9 volt
into the stock and hook all the wires together and make sure that they fit well
and there’s not much tension. Note:
If the 9 volt doesn’t fit into the stock either drill a bigger hole or add
electrical tape around the battery if the hole is too big.
Paint:
17)
Cover the stock, front
handle, and the alligator clips with making tape or plastic. If you’re making
your bazooka all one color don’t cover the stock and front handle. I made mine
two different colors as shown in the picture
above.
18)
Now you’re ready to
paint. Be creative!
19)
Your bazooka is
done!
Rocket
Supplies
needed:
-
Estes Mini Honest
John
-
A3-4T Estes Engines (
comes with igniters)
-
Masking
tape
1)
Buy and build the Estes
Mini Honest John rocket. You don’t have to put the launch lug on the rocket
since you’re not launching your rocket from a launch pad. Paint if desired.
I
built this bazooka because of this rocket for a couple of reasons. First, this
rocket is launched using the mini Estes engines so if this bazooka fails there
won’t be as much damage as if this rocket has a C engine in it. Second, this
rocket is very small so it makes the bazooka look more realistic. Third, this
rocket fits perfectly into the 2.5”diameter of the
tube.
2)
Place rocket into the
back of your bazooka. If the rocket can slip out put masking tape on the inside
of the tube where each fin will rest. Note: If you add too much masking tape the rocket will get stuck at
launch and stay in the bazooka the whole time. If this happens wait until the
parachute is deployed. Do not set on ground and leave it, the rocket could catch
dry grass on fire. *If you don’t add enough masking tape the rocket can fall out
when you point it up to launch.
Test:
To test your bazooka make sure that the switch is in the “off”
position. Get 1 igniter and hook it up to the end alligator clips. Switch your
switch to the “on” position and if your igniter ignites than you’re ready for
launch. If your igniter doesn’t ignite check to see if your alligator clips are
on the wire correctly.
Firing:
To fire your bazooka, prepare your rocket by
adding wading and packing your parachute. Prepare your engine by placing it into
your rocket and hooking it up to an igniter and a plug to hold your igniter in
place. Now hold your bazooka away from any living thing or object. Hook up the
igniter to the alligator clips and hold it up at an 85 degree angle. Switch the
switch to the “on” position until fire. If the rocket doesn’t fire wait two
minutes then you can move your barrel down but still don’t point it at any
living thing or object! Your rocket will launch about 325 feet (99 m). Do not shoot your bazooka like a regular
bazooka because the rocket can be unbalanced and go into the grass and might
even catch it on fire. Also the force of gravity would pull the rocket to hit
the ground before the engine of the rocket is used up. Remember to always check
your town’s laws to ensure that using this bazooka is legal. I am not
responsible for misuse, abuse or any action that might endanger any living
thing or property. Other than that this bazooka is an awesome device to
have and show your friends.
Have fun!
